This Georgia State Park is located in the southeastern most corner of the state. It is nestled in between the river it is named after and a US Navy Submarine base.
It was a really hot day without a cloud in the sky and that drained all three of us of our energy. It took us an hour to hike just a mile through the woods. We did stop at a bird watching platform (didn’t see any birds but Trey enjoyed running up and down the ramp) and we went off course a bit to wander through the muddy salt marshes along the river.
One highlight was getting to spot a wild Gopher Tortoise. This creature is Georgia’s official state reptile and Trey was really happy to see it since he has been reading some Franklin the Turtle books a lot lately.
