Crooked River State Park

Crooked River State Park in Darien, GAThis Georgia State Park is located in the southeastern most corner of the state. It is nestled in between the river it is named after and a US Navy Submarine base.

It was a really hot day without a cloud in the sky and that drained all three of us of our energy. It took us an hour to hike just a mile through the woods. We did stop at a bird watching platform (didn’t see any birds but Trey enjoyed running up and down the ramp) and we went off course a bit to wander through the muddy salt marshes along the river.

One highlight was getting to spot a wild Gopher Tortoise. This creature is Georgia’s official state reptile and Trey was really happy to see it since he has been reading some Franklin the Turtle books a lot lately.
