Just before New Year’s Trey and I got to meet up with our friends Shane & Mitzi McBride at her parents’ in Vonore, TN. Trey got to play with Shane’s son Zack who is just a bit older than him. Zack was wearing an awesome Peanuts t-shirt that said “Mr. Strong” across it.
We toured Mitzi’s dad’s workshop where he creates beautiful wood bowls and vases from what look like worthless chunks of lumber. Trey and Zack quickly got to work hammering and beating wooden sticks. In one of the photos it looks like Zack is about to clobber Trey, but don’t worry, no one was injured.

Several parks in Georgia are named after people, and most of those folks are either military leaders or legislators. Stephen Foster got a state park named after him by simply writing a popular song in 1851 that uses the river of the state park in its title and lyrics. From what I read he just picked a random river in the Southeast that had a nice “poetic” name and then wrote “Way Down on the Swanee Ribber” (listen to it).
The state park resides in the swamps of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and the Suwanee River cuts through it. We stopped by on our way back from Florida, had a picnic, toured the museum, and hiked the nature trail. If we visit again I’d like to rent one of the canoes or boats from their marina and follow some of the canoe trails.

Florida weather is the best. On the day after Christmas we went to the beach and Trey had a ball. For some reason he was really thrilled by the water this time.

This year’s Christmas was very different than last years’ for Trey. Last year it there was no other family around, just Trey and his parents, and he didn’t get many gifts or toys. The biggest thing last year and this year have in common was the heat!
Heidi had the week off from work so we drove down to Florida to spend the holiday with her family. We stayed at her parents’ house along with Heidi’s brother Kenny, her sister Rachel, and Rachel’s boyfriend Erin. On several evenings Heidi’s sister Annie spent the night as well – so it was a packed house!
Trey loved all the attention he got from his relatives who hadn’t seen him in a while. He also loved the musical instruments he received as gifts. His grandmother gave him a two-octave mini-piano and his uncle gave him a harmonica. There will be plenty of noise coming from the Haun house this new year.

We ended up sending out two different Christmas cards this year. We couldn’t decided between the two of us which one we liked more. With all the holiday craziness we didn’t get to send out as many as we had hoped. So please don’t feel bad if yours didn’t arrive!
Click the “Read more” link to see some of the shots we took that didn’t make it into the annual Christmas Card.
