We took a decent drive today (1hour) down to Cordele to the GA Veterans State Park. It was a bit of a let down, no playgrounds and an unkempt hiking trail. It does have a pretty neat disc golf course, model airplane field, and lots of fishing opportunities, but we weren’t really interested in any of those today.
The highlight of the day was when a train barreled down the tracks we had just been walking on. Thank goodness you can hear those things a mile a way. Trey was thrilled to see one whiz by so close.
After days and days of being stuck indoors I planned an outing today that was rain-proof. And then it didn’t rain. We still had fun though down in Warner-Robins where we visited the Aviation Museum and played at Monkey Joe’s.
At the Aviation Museum we saw tons of HUGE aircraft and learned some interesting things like 1) the museum is the “Crown Jewel” of Middle Georgia, and 2) World War II was fought for “Coca-Colas, Hamburgers, Clean Places to Sleep, or the American Way of Life” (pick one). Trey wasn’t too interested in all the details of the exhibits but spent most of his time running from airplane to airplane.

If play places were foods, Chuck E. Cheese would be a Big Mac and fries and Monkey Joe’s would be whole wheat spaghetti with a made from scratch organic tomato sauce. Ok, it isn’t that great of a place, but our experience there was a million times more enjoyable than Chuck E. Cheese. Instead of pounding music and the deafening booms and whistles of dozens of arcade games, Monkey Joe’s is simple. Sure there are a few arcade games, but the main attraction is about 10 giant inflatable slides and obstacle courses. Kids have a blast and actually exercise. With the entrance fee being a mere $5, Trey and I will be heading back there on the next rainy day.
Five days of rain has driven Trey and me CRAZY! We want to go back outdoors! Today we passed the time with baseball in the garage and a W.C. Field’s film. Trey was a big fan of the car chase sequence at the end – though he was quite concerned when ever cars crashed. Oh, sunshine, please, please come back!
Though our weekend was completely rained out we still had a blast with Heidi’s family hanging around the house and running down to the lake whenever the rain let up. Below is the link to some photos most of which were taken by Heidi’s dad.
Heidi’s family is in town and had a 2-year & 1-week birthday party for Trey. Annie gave him a plastic baseball bat and it was a hit! He immediately insisted on playing with it. After hitting the balls like a golf ball we finally set up an impromptu teeball stand and showed him how to hit off it.
Trey’s been doing great using the potty these last few weeks so we upgraded him to underwear. We tried to hype the change up a bit to him by emphasizing that he was wearing “big boy” underwear. We also let him have Sesame Street themed undies to excite him even more. Looks like our methods worked pretty, pretty, pretty well…
