Pooh on the Carpet

Trey has been making some great progress with potty training; but we’re not quite there yet. If I make it a point to ask him regularly if he needs to go to the bathroom I can keep his diapers dry and get him to go in the potty.

Monday he went 5 times and kept his diaper dry all morning. Tuesday I got braver and let him run around naked. He peed about 4 times in the potty but never went #2. I was checking email on the computer when he ran over to me grinning. “Poo!” he shouted excitedly “Poo!”

“Do you need to go poo?” I asked.

“Poo! he said again and pointed to the other side of the living room. There it was sitting on floor. To make things worse, he had stepped in it and tracked it across the room. Oh well, we’re not quite there yet.

Georgia Children’s Home

Who would have thought the Georgia Children’s Home would be such a great place to go? It turns out, the GCH owns a huge chunk of land and has created an elaborate trail system through its woods. The trails are primarily used by mountain bikers and runners but Trey and I had a wonderful time meandering through them. At only 5 miles from our house, we’ll definitely be returning to explore more.

Sun & Fun with Mommy

Heidi came home around 9:30AM after over 24 hours at the hospital and we headed over to Sprewell Bluff State Park. Heidi took a cat nap on the drive there and then she was ready to roll. I’m amazed at how she is able to muster up the energy to chase Trey around after such long hours.

We hiked up to the overlook for a short while but spent most of our time in the river. Trey never gets tired of throwing rocks in the water. Heidi got a bit too much sun. And I entertained myself by stacking & balancing rocks a la Andy Goldsworthy. Overall it was a wonderful family outing!

Feist on Sesame Street

I know, I know. Enough with the Sesame Street stuff William. But it’s so good!

Feist, an artist Heidi and I really like, appeared on Sesame Street this week with a re-write of her “1,2,3,4″ song from her critically acclaimed album “The Reminder”. Below is her Sesame Street appearance but you should also check out the original song’s great music video.

Who likes SS more? Trey or Daddy?

Trey has really been digging Sesame Street this week. And so have I. Every day they have clever sketches that I can tell are educating Trey and at the same time they entertain me.

Today they covered triangles and had singer James Blunt as a guest. He sang a song that I hate – one of those pop/top40 songs that you hear for a while on the radio and in any store you visit. However, Sesame Street rewrote the words and he sang about finding a triangle. I love how they’ve taken a song that was originally quite silly and put it into a silly context. A highlight of the video was the slow-mo disco scenes.

I think I like the Sesame St. version better and so I sang along to Trey. Throughout the day he would look at me and say “triangle?” in a really high-pitched voice and I would respond by breaking into the catchy song. Watch the video below and you’ll be singing “A triangle… my triangle” over and over too.

Mixed Messages?

Wow, what marketing genius came up with this? Kellogg’s now has Lego shaped fruit snacks. Hopefully this brilliant product comes with a parent’s guide that shows me how to teach my 2 year-old the difference between a choking-hazard real Lego and a sweet corn-syrupy, strawberry Lego snack.

Brilliant. Just brilliant. Next up, fruit flavored thumbtacks.
