Trey’s First Art Show

Trey Looks at Daddy’s PhotographsTonight was the opening reception for the St. Petersburg College Faculty Art Show. Last year I had entered one very large print and this year went for two medium-sized (10″x15″) photographs from my recent Fontana camping trip.

Trey came along to the show and enjoyed the art. What he enjoyed most though were the crackers at the finger foods table. Have you ever really looked at a Ritz cracker up close? Now that is a work of art!

** UPDATE ** You can see some of the other art in the show at the SPC Online Photo Gallery.

Trey Gets His Shots and isn’t Psychologically Scarred for Life

I was not looking forward to taking Trey in for his shots today. He was supposed to get them last week but had a fever so the doctor recommended waiting a week. He had the fever all last week and was quite ornery because of it (but who can blame him). All that said, it was a rough week for us. However, yesterday he was back to his 100% chipper self (until he tried some spicy salsa at dinner).

At the doctor’s office I could tell he knew something bad was about to go down as soon as I wrapped my arms around him in a bear hug so that he wouldn’t move when pricked. The nurse was excellent at delivering the two shots quickly. He wailed for about 15 seconds during and after the injections but then stopped and started pointing to the pictures on the wall he wanted to see up close. Wow, quick recovery! After that he was all smiles again as he played with toys on the floor.

I guess I was expecting the worst and was pleasantly surprised to see that he rebounded pretty quickly.

Hooray for Trey!

“Uh Oh” Instead of “Mommy” or “Daddy”

Trey Drops His Pacifier in the BottleTrey has 3 words he is slowly perfecting.  “Uh Oh”, “Hi”, and “Hot”.  He can say them all, he just doesn’t quite have the context of the words down just right.

Today when he dropped his pacifier in the 5 gallon water bottle he looked at me and said “uh oh”.   Looks like he has that one down just right!

The One Year Doctor’s Visit

Trey visited the doctor today and escaped without any shots. Normally kids get 3 shots on their one year visit but Trey had a bit of a fever and a possible ear infection so the doctor wanted to wait another week. Lucky you Trey!

Trey Eats His Birthday Cake

Here’s a short clip of Trey digging into (or poking into) his birthday cake at last Saturday’s party.

Trey’s Second First Birthday Party

Trey holds balloons at this birthday partyOur party/cookout at Walsingham Park was a blast today. Almost 60 people attended – some of Heidi’s high school and med school friends, Heidi’s family, many of our friends from church, and even some friends from William’s old workplace.

We manipulated Trey’s nap schedule to get him to nap before the party. Unfortunately he napped a little too long and didn’t wake up until 5:30pm (the party started at 5pm). On top of that, William had already gone to the park and accidentally took the car keys leaving Heidi stranded at home with Trey. So the party started a bit late at 6pm.

Trey Eats CakeThere were lots of kids at the party (18 of the 58 present) and they enjoyed the playground and green grass to play in. The adults played two games – “Guess How Many Cheerios in the Jar” and “How Often Do You Visit Trey’s Blog?”. The latter was a matching game where you matched dates with significant events in Trey’s first year. Rick Jakubowski won a framed photo of Trey at the aquarium for guessing the closest to the 3456 Cheerios in the jar. Joe Corbin and his fiancée Nancy Dion won the matching game – ironically, they have never visited this website.

Trey’s Mini-CakeThrowing a party and trying to talk to everyone that attends keeps you quite busy. I had plans to do a bunch of video and photos. In the end, I just videoed Trey eating his cake and I took a couple photos. Special thanks to Marc Westergard for snapping a lot of shots for me. Here are the pictures.
