Trey’s first 2 months

I know it sounds cliche, but infants do grow so quickly. Over the past 2 months it has been a joy to see him grow and develop new skills. I want to give a quick recap of Trey’s first 2 months.

2 month check-up

We went to the doctor for his 2 month check up today. Trey is now 11 pounds, 4 ounces and 22.5 inches long. He is right at the 50th percentile for weight and height. At least I’ll still be able to use the 0-3 months outfits a while longer with him.
Trey's First ShotsTrey also got his first round of shots today. I had to hold him down while the nurse administered the shots. The look on his face was one of shock and confusion, then he started crying. I nursed him immediately after the shots and he fell fast asleep. I hate to see him in pain, but I have decided that the benefits of immunization outweigh the risks and the temporary discomfort of the needle.

Auntie Annie Gets Married

Trey attended his second wedding today. (The first was for our friends Joel and Carrianne) My younger sister Annie (a gorgeous bride) got married and is officially now an Engelman. The wedding ceremony was held at the botanical garden in Largo. It was a beautiful day for a garden wedding with a cool breeze blowing through the trees. I was the matron of honor (sharing the duties with my older sister Rachel who was the maid of honor.) Trey actually slept in the sling held by William through the entire ceremony. During the reception, however, he woke up and was a bit fussy, but we were able to eat in peace as there were many cousins waiting in line to hold the little guy. At the end of the night, the kazoos were passed out (party favors to send off Jonathan and Annie with a bunch of noise.) Trey was a bit confused by all the commotion.

Congratulations to Annie and Jonathan…and we welcome Uncle Jon to the family.

8 hours…

Lately, I’ve been trying to figure out Trey’s own little routine, wondering when he will start sleeping through the night. A couple nights ago, he slept two stretches of 5 hours. Not bad. Last night, he slept 8 (or at least there were 8 hours between feedings.) Too bad that the feedings were at 8pm and 4 am. He’s keeping his great-grandfather’s schedule with those hours. Now, I just need to get him to adopt a schedule more like Roger William Haun II, and I’ll be able to sleep through the night too.

New Animation on williamandheidi.com

Head on over to williamandheidi.com and you’ll see a slight change to the intro animation. It’s about time!

Those of you that know me well will see a certain font and wonder what on earth has possessed William. I’m just holding true to my belief that Comic Sans is not always evil. When used in the proper context, it is quite appropriate. “Comic” implies something that is fun and light-hearted. Therefore, it should only be used for fun and light-hearted content. Jokes, babies, kids, and comic strips are all fitting. Funeral home billboards, professional letterheads, and medical manuals should never use the font.

Free of Bees

I found where the bees were coming from yesterday and it wasn’t good. They were getting into our ceiling space through a small opening in the eve on the backside of our house. Kenny, my brother-in-law, came over and we tore out the soffits to find not one, not two, but THREE honeycombs and thousands of bees under the roof.

Normally you rob the nest of its honeycombs and kill the queen and then the bees leave on their own. Being a Saturday (exterminators are hard to find and very expensive on weekends) and considering the fact that they are getting into the house (with my allergy I can’t risk Trey getting stung) we couldn’t go with the environmentally sound option. We sprayed some potent bug spray up inside and a couple hours later they were all dead.

Today Kenny and my father-in-law came over to help clean the ceiling space out. Luckily the insulation kept the honey from soaking into our sheet rock ceiling. Kenny vacuumed the dead buggers out and we put in new insulation and new soffits. Now we are bee free and have shiny white vinyl soffits around back.

Thanks Kenny and Ken for saving our house from becoming a honey factory, and a special thanks to my uncle Bruce, an ex-exterminator, for his very helpful advice throughout the whole ordeal.
