Weight & Waist Gains

Another part of our ongoing documentation of the pregnancy has been keeping track of Heidi’s weight and waist size. Below are some charts that show how her body has changed in the last 8 1/2 months.

37 Weeks into the Pregnancy (July 18, 2006)

We’ve actually been taking our photos at the halfway mark between “weeks.” This time we were a bit late taking the photos so we are actually back on an exact week again.

4 weeks to go!

Due dates. Lately, the number one question I get is “when are you due?” I try to give estimates, “4 weeks”, “a month” or “whenever the kid decides he is done incubating.” I figure that the less I focus on August 8, the less frustrated I’ll be if he hasn’t come by then. Right now, I just want him to stay in place for at least one more week. First, by 37 weeks, he is finally considered to be at term. Second, William is out of town until Sunday. He traveled to Nashville without me for the wedding of Jym Davis and Allison Cooper. I wish I could have joined him, but I really didn’t want to take the chance. Many people have told William, “Oh, my wife had her baby 4 weeks early.” I know that the others are trying to relate and be kind…but as he is out of town, those are not the stories he wants to hear. While only the Lord knows when Trey will be born, I have tried to reassure William that I have been keeping my stress level to a minimum and I really don’t think I’ll be having the baby while he is gone.

I’m now on the weekly prenatal visit schedule. We’ll see what they have to say on Thursday.

Clothes, Clothes, Clothes!!!

We felt a bit odd having “no clothes, please” printed on Heidi’s baby shower invites, but as you can see from the photo below – we’ve got a’plenty.

Heidi spent the last couple days washing and organizing all the “hand-me-down” clothes we’ve been given by friends and the clothes in the picture above are the 0-9months ones.

In fact, we have so many clothes that Heidi has shared the love with some other friends’ of ours who are expecting in October. I did a quick count and I think that my unborn son has about 3.14 times more clothes than me.

A special shout out to my colleagues Mike Carnahan and Karen Hesting who both had boys in the last 3 years and gave us the majority of these great outfits. Gazillions of “Thank you”s to all of you who have blessed us with gifts.

Boys’ Weekend Out

Click for more photos from Jym's blogYou know that I’m having a baby in 5 weeks, but several of my other friends have some life changing events coming up. Jym Davis is getting married next week. Jon Engelman is marrying my sister-in-law in 4 months. Kenny Jensen, my brother-in-law, is moving to the other side of country soon.

With such big changes on the horizon we decided to have a “Boys’ Weekend Out.” So this past July 4th weekend we went to Fontana Lake, tucked away in the Smoky Mountains, for 3 days of camping, hiking, swimming, art, and general insanity. Another college friend Jerry Span now lives at Fontana Village and was our outdoorsman/trail guide for the journey (without him us city boys would have been eaten by wild animals and died from eating poisonous mushrooms).

** UPDATED ** You can view my photo album online now. If you head over to Jym’s blog he has some more photos from the trip posted.
