Our living room is a studio

Click for larger image We got a light kit and have been trying some studio style photos in our living room. We’ll be taking some more tomorrow and hopefully have them all online by
Wednesday.

In the meantime, click the one to the right for a preview. It’s pretty amazing Click for larger imagethat with the right lighting you can use just about any location to create great professional looking photographs. This one was taken with two fans blowing at Heidi and one on the floor blowing up. I left the shutter open for about 2 seconds so the sheet got that soft, blurry, and glowing look as it flapped in the wind.

Photos from Sunset Beach

We went out yesterday to get some “pregnancy photos.” I’d like to wait until her belly gets even bigger, but can’t push my luck. We’ll go out again in a week or so and shoot some more.

These were all taken with my 40 year-old Canon FT and I scanned the negatives to put them online. For the black and white photos I removed the color and enhanced them in Photoshop. I also took some medium format shots with my Holga but they won’t be developed until tomorrow.

Belly Photo Shoot

Belly at Sunset beach thumbnailWilliam and I went out to the beach last night to get photos of my pregnant belly. We ended up at Sunset Beach after realizing that John’s Pass was under serious construction (giant cranes on barges in the Pass!) I had forgotten how beautiful Sunset Beach was. I don’t think that I have been there since junior high. William has more vivid memories of the beach. About 6 years ago, while he was visiting Kenny and me during the summer, the two boys tried to swim across the intercoastal from Sunset Beach to St. Pete Beach. Being deceived by the seemingly narrow width, they quickly realized the current was much stronger than anticipated. Incidentally, after William survived his near death experience during his first visit to my hometown, he then made it onto the evening news. The segment was about beach erosion and its effects on tourism. Being from Tennessee, William was asked to make a statement. I think William’s quote was something like: “well, if not for the beaches, I would still come for the oranges!” So profound. Of course, Kenny provided the background action as he walked through a flock of birds!

oh the times, they are a-changing

I continue to get larger and my belly button continues to flatten out (except for that top lip that continues to peak above the rest). Trey’s movements are more like stretches and twists than kicks these days, except for when he gets the hiccups. William didn’t believe me at first, until he put his hand on my stomach the other day at lunch, and felt the rhythmic movements. We’ve decided that the old wives’ tales about standing on your head and drinking water as cures for the hiccups are bogus, because they don’t seem to work for Trey! I’ve been starting to feel the Braxton Hicks contractions. At first, I couldn’t figure out if they were contractions or Trey’s entire body totally pressed up against the front of my abodomen. I know that they aren’t supposed to hurt, but I figured they would be more noticeable than they have been.
